Troglodytidae : Wrens

Northern House Wren

Troglodytes aedon

Point Pelee, Canada - May 2000

The House Wren is a common and widespread bird throughout North America.

Point Pelee, Canada - May 2000

House Wrens often puncture the eggs of other species occupying nestboxes within their territory, presumably to try and reduce competition for food resources. Occassionally they will breed in a usurped nestbox, but usually nest nearby.
